Yet another relationship in jeopardy song. I am sure a listening psychoanalyst will be having a field day with all this uncertainty in my lyric writing. But we now know the real reason - it’s just easier than writing happy ones. I love ‘Live from Darryl’s House’ and am in awe of the off-the-floor recordings those talented musicians bang out in a single, live take. This is me, doing them, doing one of my songs. Yes, it's a relationship on the rocks, but there's still a ray of hope.

Lyrics

Well so the fire’s fading, and the fuel has all been spent / Now the night is closing in on us like a sin we can’t repent / And in the frost of morning, I will awake to find that you’ll be off to chase the sun and leave me here behind / Searching for embers in the ashes, sifting for embers in the ashes / The ashes of us / And so it seems it’s over / So much we’ve lived and learned / Who knew matches made in heaven can sometimes leave you burned / And in the noonday sunshine I know you’re having fun / 'Cos you’re the cat with all the lives and I’m the dog with one / Searching for embers in the ashes, tending those embers in the ashes / The ashes of us / So not much lasts forever and perfect rarely fits / And trouble always overshadows the sweet and lovely bits / But in the twilight’s dimming, the gypsy moth takes flight and you’ll be glad that this old flame is standing by his light / Stoking those embers in the ashes, fanning those embers in the ashes / The ashes of us / Where there’s smoke there’s fire / We still got embers, Baby
