From the recording Crimson & Closure
More fuel for the fire and another of my first real songs. Written originally with a different hook - conceived on my then 3 year-old daughter’s Fisher-Price xylophone, the song was updated last year with a new melody, topical new lyrics, a new hook with a noticeable Ennio Morricone reverberation, and a key chord voicing with the 5th on top à la Mr. Lightfoot’s ’Sundown’. It’s my Angry Old Man song I suppose, but sometimes you just wanna say “snap out of it!”
Lyrics
You'll never be free until you find a way... / Hands up if you take your money woes to bed / While visions of spending mess with your head / Fear of missing out is a silicon threat / A slippery slope to a mountain of debt / How tall is a man if he’s forced to his knees / Though shalt not question what dogma decrees / Fathers, Sisters, Brothers and Moms, the trail that you follow needs nobody’s crumbs / You can’t stand up straight with a shadow on your shoulder / You can’t rise and shine with a cloud hanging over / You’ll never be free until you find a way / Out From Under /
Left wing facing off with the God-given Rights / Platforms colliding with truth in their sites / Mind games being played in the home of the brave / While reason steps closer to edge of the grave / You can’t stand up straight with a devil on your shoulder / You can’t blue sky mine with a cloud hangin’ over / You’ll never be free until you find a way Out From Under
