My pragmatic side couldn’t resist the charm of this saying, which I came across while researching CB radio expressions. I had the pay-off so then it was just a matter of working backwards to find the three verses to set it up. Just before I re-recorded it last year, I had been trying to teach myself how to play Sir Paul’s ‘Martha My Dear’ on the piano, which clearly influenced my piano lick here. I duplicated the piano track and then de-tuned it slightly to make it sound like it might were it in Rocky Racoon’s saloon. The sonic wink at the end of verse three is almost not worth talking about.
